More information on glass reinforced plastic and its benefits

At GRP Solutions, we believe in the amazing properties in fibreglass that allow for extreme versatility. This is why we think glass reinforced plastic can benefit your project.

Composites, is a general term applied to reinforced plastics, but in the case of GRP it is glass fibres reinforcing a plastic layer, hence GRP (glass reinforced plastics.) Different types of fibre can be used such as carbon and Aramid, but the most common applications employ the use of glass fibre. The plastic is thermosetting, most often polyester or vinyl-ester, but other plastics, like epoxy, are also used. Fibreglass can be applied to a multitude of uses due to its unique properties. Fibreglass is both stiff and strong in tension and compression.

The versatility of GRP combines lightweight with inherent strength to provide a weather resistant finish, with an endless selection of colours, styles and patterns. GRP offers advantages that no that no other construction material can. GRP can solve your design issues, with an organic, flowing solution that can be truly unique, or easily blended.

Designers love working with GRP, especially when they realise the curves and beautiful finishes that GRP is capable of. Let your imagination run wild, the design possibilities with fibreglass are effectively unlimited. GRP Solutions has been working with artists, fashion and interior designers for many years and have created some beautiful products. What we can do with composite gives you total freedom and confidence that your product is a reality. The design freedom also comes at a price applicable to any project. Our in house fibreglass moulds manufacturing techniques are much more cost effective than injection moulding techniques.

The lightweight strength of fibreglass has always made it a popular choice for designers and manufacturers alike, fibreglass offers distinct advantages for a wide range of products, its reduced weight and maintenance make it attractive on architectural projects, and more industries are discovering the benefits of its versatility, these industries include, construction, leisure, marine, automotive, aerospace and transport.

GRP offers Microwave invisibility making it the material of choice for numerous Ministry of Defence items. You may be amazed at the large amount of applications GRP can be used for. GRP styling can benefit Theme parks, Architectural solutions and a virtually unlimited amount of other situations. Chances are you see a piece a GRP everyday but may not even think about it. Furthermore, Fibreglass also provides superior acoustical properties when compared to plastic or metal. Inner layers of foam are applied to appropriate thickness levels to provide sound dampening properties Low maintenance Fibreglass components require very little or no maintenance as they do not rust or rot. Because of the durability of fibreglass, GRP sections of old projects shine bright and endure as other parts age and crumble. Fibreglass is inert to acid rain, extreme temperatures, salt air, and a variety of chemicals. Modern GRP also has a high resistance to UV light which has the power to bleach many outdoor materials.

Initially developed by the M.O.D in the second world war. 60 years on and well designed composite structures and components are still in use today. This is a testament to the durability and resistant qualities of fibreglass. fibreglass offers a high resistance to environmental factors, allowing a versatile solutions to weathering. fibreglass also offers a very high strength to weight ratio, making it lighter and providing better performance than some other building materials. Our fibreglass products are available in any RAL, BS or PantoneĀ® colour allowing our clients imaginations to be as unlimited as possible. As well as colours, we have total freedom in finishes offering matt, semi-gloss, high gloss, metallic, or custom textured finishes that allows for perfect simulated surfaces such as brick, stone, or even brushed steel. Allowing for a cost effective, lightweight alternative to other materials such as stainless steel and expensive brick work..
